Back in New York
April 20th, 2010
It’s good to be home.
The Netherlands Tour was a wonderful experience, full of great music, beautiful country, warm people, wrong turns and lots of meat and cheese. We did a pretty good job of keeping folks entertained while criss-crossing the country, and I hope that I can make Holland a regular touring destination for years to come.
Our good friend (and travel partner) Gretjen (http://www.gretjenhelene.net/) amassed a tremendous portfolio of photo and video footage. We haven’t made plans for it yet, but I really hope that we can compile a DVD of the tour highlights to share with you in coming months. There were some really nice performances caught on “tape” all around Holland.
Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away on April 13th, and I had to cut my participation in the tour short by 4 shows. Jenee and Gretjen stayed behind to keep the tour alive. Somehow I made it out of Europe before the big Volcano popped in Iceland. I was safe and sound at home on Long Island before there was any sign of ash in the air.
I want to publicly thank everyone who sent prayers and blessings to me and my family during this difficult time. My grandfather Sam Cimaglia was the spiritual anchor of my family. He was a great man who served his country in World War II, was the President of the NY Cemetary Workers Union, and could be found (occassionally) enjoying the quarter slots at various watering holes in Atlantic City. He prayed like a monk and affected the lives of many people with his kindness and big heart.
He will be missed.
Much Love,
Joe
