July Canvas Reflections and Open Mic Pix
July 14th, 2008
Click here for some photos from our July Open Mic at the Canvas Gallery, with many thanks to photographer Alex Wolff. That’s me looking off in the picture to the right. Rorie Kelly was the feature and she was tearin’ it up as only a righteous babe with a huge voice can!
This was the second time in a row that the poets outnumbered the musicians. We’re not running a competition, mind you… It’s just an observation. Many thanks to all of you who continue to brave the summer heat and sit through the entire evening. I enjoy having you there, and I know the performers do too.
July’s Canvas Open Mic was also the first time that I ever read any of my own poetry in public, and I can’t believe how difficult it was to connect to the words! I’ve been playing music for folks for a long time, but as soon as I put down that guitar and picked up that little white piece of paper to read my poem, I got very nervous. It’s wild what you can discover about yourself when you step outside your comfort zone.
So, from one newbie to the rest of you folks who are contemplating taking the stage to share your own creativity… Just get out there and do it! Everyone, including me, is rooting for you!
Upcoming features include: Aug: Jordon Rothstein (Singer/Songwriter), Sept: Jay Scott (Singer/Songwriter), Oct: Kempton Van Hoff (Poet)
Thanks for Listening…
Much Love,
Joe
