Carolin Pook and David Mowry Finish Their Tracking
May 10th, 2008
I have to admit, that I’m writing this on the 20th, but I’m dating the post to coincide with the tracking itself. I’ve been super busy getting everything done, but I’ve been unable to write about everything until now.
Carolin came in and just poured her heart out all over the songs. When she was done, however, I started to wonder if there was still room on the record for David Mowry’s slide Dobro work. Carolin is a key element of the band, and it was important to me that she be well represented on the record. The Dobro work adds some fun elements, but not at the expense of the core group. Thankfully, we managed to keep him on two songs; and in places where it really adds some additional dimension to the tracks.
Throughout all of the “Traveling Salesman” sessions, we laid on as much music as we could muster in hopes of catching some magic moments. Some times it worked, and sometimes not. Now we need to pick out the gem moments and let the rest fall away back into the great void. My goal is to make the record as tasty as possible. To do so requires the stripping away of all the non-essential elements.
My camera battery gave out at the start of Carolin’s session, and David was only in the studio for a short time, so I’ve only got a couple of pictures.
Carolin and David… You have my deepest gratitude for all of your help.

Thanks for listening!
Love,
Joe
