Where We’re At
February 20th, 2008
Ok… Here’s the scoop.
We’re a week and three days away from my first show with the boys and I’ve got mixed emotions. I’m excited to play and I’m anxious to get the songs out there so they can begin to gel. No matter how much you practice in someone’s living room, you don’t really start to get better until you play a few shows in front of an audience. The old adage that one live show is equal to 20 rehearsals is really true.
Conversely, I’m a little concerned. Frankly, we have not really found the soul of the music. Joe and Craig are busy musicians with quite a lot going on outside of my project. This leaves only a few times that we’re able to get together leading up to these shows. Without the commitment that comes from a band of friends who are working exclusively together, the music currently sounds more like a group playing covers of songs, rather than the original songs themselves.
Will that come together in time? I don’t know. But I won’t be going into the studio until it sounds whole.
Regardless, we should have about nine songs to play for you as a group on March 1st. There may even be a lovely fiddle player joining us, and a couple of solo-acoustic tunes, but I can’t confirm that just yet.
If ever the emotional support of friends and fans was needed, it would be now. Please come on out on March 1st and help me pump some emotion into these songs. It’s time to take them out and let ‘em ride!
Thanks for listening!
Much Love,
Joe
