Craig Makes (it) Three
December 13th, 2007
I’m very happy to announce that the fantastic Craig Akin is going to playing bass with me and Joe Hertenstein to complete the core trio. Craig came to me through Joe H., who met him at a recent jazz session in Manhattan. Mr. Akin relocated to NY from Kansas City where he held the groove for countless bands for nearly ten years. He has played all over the world in festivals and really has a nice laid back way of playing. Needless to say, he’s super busy and I’m totally psyched that he’s making time for the project.
Today was the first day we all got together to run down some songs. Joe heads back to Germany for all of January and that’ll give me time to work with Craig on the harmonic aspects of the tunes until he gets back. Most of our time was spent just getting to know each other musically. But it was really fun. The songs are really coming alive and I’m really looking forward to exploring the jam aspect of music that I’ve not really able to do as a solo artist (I think I need to brush up on my chops a little…)
I really like these guys… They’re not only talented, but their smart and just cool to be around. It’s nice to make some new friends… I tend to be reclusive, and that’s none too good for the sanity in large doses.
The only thing that sucks is that my mini recorder (which ran the whole time) was set to the wrong input… None of the session made it to the disc… :(
D’oh! No worries… There will be plenty of music to share soon enough :)
Thanks for listening!
